About the event
Join us this week as we sit down with Dr. Douglas Selinger, Founder and CEO of Plex Research, and Drew Volpe, Founding Partner of First Star Ventures, which invested in Plex Research.
The Lab-to-Launch Lounge (LLL) series brings former Harvard graduate students in CXO roles back to campus to hear how they launched their research out from Harvard labs:
* how did they get here
* what would they do differently--and what they would not do at all--if a student again
* anything else on your mind
Join the discussion, meet fun people, grab a bite, and leave with new ideas. Open to the Harvard community.
SPEAKER BIOS
Dr. Douglas Selinger is the CEO and Founder of Plex Research. As an early pioneer of microarray technology, Doug authored some of the first publications describing experimental and computational approaches for large scale transcriptional analyses. After completing his Ph.D. in George Church’s lab at Harvard, he joined the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research where his 14-year career spanned the entire drug discovery pipeline, including significant work in target ID/validation, high throughput screening, and preclinical safety. In 2017, Doug founded Plex Research to develop a novel form of AI based on search engine algorithms. Plex’s unique platform has helped dozens of biotech and pharma companies accelerate their drug discovery pipelines by providing interpretable and actionable analyses of massive chemical biology and omics data sets.
Drew Volpe is a Founding Partner of First Star Ventures. Drew is an accomplished investor, entrepreneur, and technologist with a deep experience in search, machine learning, sensors, mobile, computational bio, and blockchain technologies. He was the founding VP of Product Development for conversational AI startup Semantic Machines. He was previously co-founder/CTO of Locately where he led development of Locately's location-based market research platform from inception through the company’s successful acquisition by SMG. Prior to Locately, Drew was Director of Product Development at Endeca Technologies, a pioneer in search and unstructured database systems, acquired by Oracle for $1.1 billion. Drew holds an AB in Computer Science from Harvard University
