AI to discover new enzymes and increase their engineerability
Prof. Peter Girguis
Organismic and Evolutionary Biology
John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
The AI-based technology developed in Peter Girguis’s lab provides the foundation for a precise and tunable pipeline for enzyme discovery and engineering leading to cheaper and faster development of novel enzyme applications. This technique uses state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to analyze and understand microbial genomes in an unbiased manner. They are then able to connect the context, the functional capabilities, and the regulatory interactions of genes and their products.
They are seeking funding to scale the model and relevant industry partners to support the launch of a startup.
